Lauantaina 7.3. selviää Uuden Musiikin Kilpailun suorassa televisiolähetyksessä, kuka edustaa Suomea toukokuussa Rotterdamissa kisattavissa Euroviisuissa.
UMK:n selkeästi suurin voittajasuosikki on Erika Vikmanin suomeksi laulama ”Cicciolina”, joka on saanut YouTubessa ylivoimaisesti eniten katselukertoja. Kaikki muut UMK-finalistit ovat valinneet esityskielekseen englannin, jolla Euroviisut on viime vuosikymmeninä lähes poikkeuksetta voitettu. Yksi näistä poikkeuksista oli Portugalin Salvador Sobral, joka korjasi potin vuonna 2017 kappaleellaan ”Amar pelos dois”.
Suomen toistaiseksi ainoa voitto Euroviisuissa tuli vuonna 2006 Mr. Lordin englanniksi esittämällä kappaleella ”Hard Rock Hallelujah”. Parhaiten menestynyt suomeksi laulettu kappale puolestaan on Marion Rungin ”Tom tom tom”, joka sijoittui kuudenneksi vuonna 1973. Viimeksi Euroviisuissa on laulettu suomeksi vuonna 2015, jolloin Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät -yhtyeen kappale ”Aina mun pitää” jäi ensimmäisen semifinaalin viimeiselle sijalle. Pelkkä kielivalinta ei tietenkään aina riitä, sillä täsmälleen samalle sijalle jäi viime vuonna Daruden ja Sebastian Rejmanin englanninkielinen kappale ”Look Away”.
Valitsevatko suomalaiset Erika Vikmanin Euroviisuihin laulamaan kielellä, jota muu maailma ei ymmärrä ja jolla ei ole vielä kertaakaan voitettu? Mr Greenin kertoimenlaskijat uskovat, että kappaleen koukuttavuuden ja Vikmanin antaumuksellisen esiintymiskyvyn ansiosta juuri näin tulee käymään.
Erika Vikmanin ”Cicciolinan” kerroin UMK:n voittajaksi on selkeästi pienin, vain 1.33. Ennakkosuosikin vanavedessä on tiukempaa taistelua. Kakkosena on tällä hetkellä Tika kappaleella ”I Let My Heart Break”, jonka kerroin on 4.50. Heti perässä ovat Aksel Kankaanrannan ”Looking Back” ja Catharina Zühlken ”Eternity” kertoimilla 5.00. F3M:n ja Sansan mahdollisuuksiin ei ennakkoasetelmissa uskota lainkaan, sillä F3M:n voitolla pääsisi nettoamaan 15-kertaisesti ja Sansan yllätysvoitolla jopa 25-kertaisesti.
